Desmond Mendez, better known by his stage name Charly Black is a raggae, dancehall artist from Bueno, Trelawny, Jamaica. He wsa born and raised in Bueno, where he attended Rio Bueno Primary and High School. He started singing at the tender age of 5 years old and before he started his professional singing career he was a MC/Selector for a sound system from Montego Bay called Warlord Intternational. In 2005 he joined Bass Odyssey Entertainment, one of the more popular sound system in Jamaica. Bass Odyssey was instrumental in the development of Charly Black as a MC/Selector and also as an artist. He is still a Bass Odyssey MC/Selector to date and he has developed into one of Jamaica’s best entertainer.
As an artist Charly Black’s first single was his 2004 song “Woman It’s You”. He made his mark on the dancehall scene with the hit single “Nuff Nuff Luv” in 2007. His major breakthrough came in 2009 with the smash hit “Rich This Year” – The song was a hit locally in Jamaica and also internationally. He has performed all over the Caribbean and throughout the United States. He has shared the stage with top artist such as Mavado, Bounty Killer, Junior Reid, Vybz Kartel, Tarrus Riley, Turbulance, Assasin, Jose Wales and many more.
