He’s got blue hair, did shrooms to get out of depression, and half-sings his lyrics. But trust, you haven’t got Ant Beale figured out just yet.
It’s OK if you’re unfamiliar; it’s only a matter of time before you know exactly who the young New Jersey native is. With his cult-like social following desperately awaiting a full-fledged project from Beale this year, the rapper locked in with G.O.O.D. Music producer Charlie Heat (“Kanye! Madonna!”) via a chance happening in Los Angeles, and delivered a well-balanced, intriguing—albeit brief—debut, ‘No Rain, No Flowers.’
“I’m nervous as fuck, ’cause it’s like, ‘It’s Charlie Heat!’” says Beale about his first encounter with the producer. “I’m like, fuck. So, I play something. Fifteen seconds [go] by, and he pushes the power button on the radio. Turns it off. I’m like, ‘Fuck. It’s ass, I suck.’ And he’s like, ‘Yo bro, put your camera away, we’re about to do music.”’
The result? A project that teaches you to “take the bullshit that life gives you,” as opposed to running from it. And, a national audience.
“Now, I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to pay my rent, which is a huge distraction.” One of the first results of that renewed focus is already here, a new single, “Away Forever,” which you can stream here.
Watch him recall his come up above.
